UGC to relax PhD/Mphil norms for women & differently-abled: Smriti Irani

New Delhi: Tuesday, UGC has decided to give relaxation on M.Phil and Ph.D duration for Women and Disabled candidate those with over 40%. Last week this suggestion made by HRD Minister Smriti Irani and on Tuesday UGC amended this rule to increase Ph.D. duration from six to eight years and for M.phil from Two to three years. This is a significant move to increase women scholars in our country, which is less than one per cent.

In other important move, women candidates can avail maternity leave, child care leave for up to 240 days in the entire M.Phil or Ph.D duration now.

In addition, if women scholar got relocate due to marriage or otherwise, they may transferred their research data to the university, which she intends to join but provided terms and conditions they have to follow.
