First look at Netflix’s ‘£245 million’ dystopian future movie with bumper cast including Millie Bobby Brown

A first look has been released at Netflix’s huge budget new sci-fi epic directed by the Russo Brothers.

The film will star Millie Bobby Brown and is set to be one of the most expensive movies ever created.

Netflix have put a whopping £245 million into the movie, putting it amongst the top ten for pure production budget.

Amongst those though, it is one of the only to be within an untested IP, with the movie being based on a popular graphic novel – but one that does not reside within Marvel, DC, or Star Wars, which make up a large amount of the top ten.

In a rather depressing statistic, it will also be the only non-sequel in the top ten for production costs.

You can check out a first look here in the brand new trailer released by Netflix:

The film in question is called The Electric State, and is a dystopian sci-fi which is sure to rocket straight to number one on the streamer’s charts.

As well as Bobby Brown, the rest of the film’s stacked cast includes Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Mackie, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, and Billy Bob Thornton.

In essence, I’m shocked they got the entire cast to agree to do the film for £245 million – let alone had any money left over to make the film.

The Electric State follows a girl’s search for his missing brother, and joining her is a robot and drifter, who all ‘may be the key to saving everything’.

Whilst the synopsis purposely vague, the graphic novel it is based on by Simon Stålenhag, which released in 2018, is highly acclaimed.

The Electric Slate book received an average score of 4.8/5 on Amazon UK, and a perfect five stars on Waterstones.

Reacting to the film’s trailer, fans were impressed by the scale of the movie.

One simply tweeted: “In Russos we trust,” while another said: “That looks fantastic! I’m surprised, but it’s hard to go wrong with Chris Pratt.”

A third said: “This should be a banger movie fingers crossed though”.

A fourth added: “This trailer was so good. Excited to see Millie Bobby Brown in her post Stranger Things era!”.

The movie represents a massive bet that Netflix are placing on Bobby Brown.

In addition to Stranger Things, the streamer have also recently released Enola Holmes and Damsel.

Enola Holmes was the biggest Netflix film of 2020, whilst Damsel remains the biggest movie on the platform of 2024 so far.
