It is absolutely freezing – there’s no escaping it.
The UK has decided to kick 2025 off with its best impression of the Arctic, as several parts of the country have already seen snow and experienced sub-zero temperatures.
We’re almost at the end of the spell though, as the weather should start improving (slightly) by the end of the week, but the temperature does get worse before getting better.
With these icy conditions though, there are a lot of extra things you’ll have to add into your daily routine – whether that be shovelling snow from your front garden, or de-icing your car in the morning.
It turns out that drivers on social media have come up with an easy way to clear and de-ice your windscreen quickly, which could save you valuable time before setting off.
Content creator @saraedeutsch posted the life hack to her TikTok page, sharing her tips and tricks with other desperate drivers out there.
It’s fair to say that viewers were shocked by the simple method, which can easily be done while sitting in your car.
She explained: “I do this video every year, when you have a windshield that is frosted over make sure you put your visors down so that it stops the air flow and creates a faster defrost on your windshield.
“If you ever have a sheet of ice or when it’s frosted, put this down and it creates a block so that it actually defrosts faster.”

Other TikTokers were pretty blown away, with many admitting they had no idea about the simple tip.
One person commented: “I’m sorry a teen driver… i just learnt this at 32 lol,” while another said: “I’m 48 and I never knew this.”
And a third added: “Me, an adult who lives in Canada, learning this for the first time.”
Meanwhile a fourth commented: “I’m gonna be trying this tomorrow morning.”
And a fifth said: “Just learned this at the age of 40… and I’ve only very important to know for all the the drivers who has to drive through the rush hour.”
There is another easy way to de-ice your car during the cold winter months, though.
Driving Test Success – the UK’s leading Theory Test revision company – shared a post on its TikTok page, explaining: “HOW TO: Defrost your windscreen.”
The video demonstrates the hack, which starts by putting the car’s temperature up high.
Next up, they explain, “Put the windscreen fan on max,” adding: “The ice will start to melt from the heat.”
All you have to do after that is wipe away any excess water and return the fan to its normal setting and hey presto – your windscreen is clear.
Plus you’re heating your car up in the process. Win-win.
