Last night was the Golden Globes and it was a very successful night for Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist, two movies this writer has not seen and can therefore not tell you very much about.
What I can say, however, is that host Nikki Glaser got a much warmer reception from the assembled celebrities than Jo Koy did last year, as she killed it in her role rather than being booed.
There were jokes at the expense of Joker 2, a somewhat controversial dig at P Diddy and a gag about Nicole Kidman’s movie Babygirl, where she said she gave it ‘two fingers up’ and invited the audience to ‘use your imagination’ and figure out what she meant by that.
Speaking of Nicole Kidman, she was nominated for Best Actress – Drama but was pipped to the post by Fernanda Torres for her performance in I’m Still Here.
It’s all right though, she’s already won six Golden Globes, so her awards cabinet might not have the extra space for another. But something else viewers of the ceremony spotted on the night was a rather intense exchange between her and Jodie Foster.
At one point in the night the cameras focused on the pair of them having what looked to be quite an important chinwag with them grabbing each other’s arms and lots of nodding going on.
According to a body language expert who spoke to the Daily Mail there was ‘something rather fierce and intense about their body language’ during this chat, and they were sending off ‘signals of friendship’.
Judi James said that this seemed to be a ‘ritual between friends’, otherwise she might think there could have been ‘dominance or even conflict’ in their actions.
Instead they seemed to be pretty friendly with each other, so whatever it was they were talking about must have been rather important.
While Kidman was nominated but did not win, Foster did collect her fifth of the awards for her leading role in True Detective: Night Country.
She’d previously won the accolades for The Accused, The Silence of the Lambs and The Mauritanian as well as picking up an honorary Golden Globe in 2013.

Foster won the race for the award ahead of Sofia Vergara, who heckled her by shouting: “No, no! Not again! Give me one!”
It all seemed to be in good fun as Vergara seems to be another of Foster’s friends who was at the awards ceremony last night.
Plus, when you’ve already won four Golden Globes and pick up a fifth on the night you should maybe expect a response from someone who’s been nominated five times without victory.
Maybe next time, Sofia.
