Daniel Radcliffe recently met up with his stunt double from Harry Potter who was left paralysed on set.
In 2009, David Holmes was filming a ‘jerk-back’ sequence (designed to replicate the effects of an explosion) for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 when he was involved in a freak accident.
Serving as the stunt double for Radcliffe from the first film, he was rushed to hospital where he was told he would be paralysed from the chest down and would have only limited movement in his arms and hands.
And to this day, the actor is ‘like family’ to Holmes.
Ahead of the release of David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived in 2023, Holmes told LADbible the pair ‘grew up together’.
“It wasn’t just as his stunt double but I was his PE teacher, we’ve shared holidays together, and now I get to watch him grow as a man,” he said.
“One of my greatest pleasures is having him in my life.”
And having served as the executive producer of the documentary, Radcliffe stopped by to see his friend earlier this month while back in the UK.
Holmes shared snaps of the pair on Instagram where he wrote: “I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful day yesterday catching up with Dan, not only was it a great day catching up with one of my best friends but it is such a joy it is to see him smashing it as a father. He certainly has his hands full chasing around a toddler.”
The author went on to add that the pair had spoke ‘all things film and TV and shared some of our favourite music discoveries’.
Holmes added that they also had a visit from ‘another of our best friends’ in the form of Marc Mailley who took on the stunt double position for Radcliffe for the final Harry Potter films.
Holmes also said: “He also kindly signed a few copies of my book, which I will be signing myself (as best I can) and then auctioning off for charity in the coming years.”
In another clip, Radcliffe can be seen admiring an illustration of the pair which he describes as ‘so beautiful’.
The former stunt man is also close to other members of the Harry Potter cast, having told LADbible: “I’ve built relationships with all of the cast. Some I speak to more than the others, but I absolutely speak to all of them.”
