I can only hope that no one reading this will ever end up in prison, but on the off chance you do find yourself behind bars, you should apparently avoid ever walking around with bare feet.
This advice comes straight from a former inmate named Amanda Dove, aka @prison_story, who has set up her social media pages with the hope of educating people on the realities of life behind bars.
Amanda has shared insights to what kinds of things can get you in trouble in prison, the kind of people you can meet while incarcerated and even ‘how to snag a boyfriend in prison‘, but today we’re talking about some of Amanda’s health tips.
In the caption of a TikTok video shared last year, the former inmate claimed that going barefoot in prison was an ‘actual hazard’.
She then expanded on her claim, saying: “If you ever were to end up in prison you do not want your feet to ever hit the floor, here’s why.
“Prison is a breeding ground for infectious diseases. Staph infection, MRSA (a bacteria), foot fungus, everywhere in prison.”
Explaining how these kinds of diseases can materialize and spread, Amanda went on to share an example scenario.
She said: “Okay, picture this, maybe someone’s in the shower and they cut themselves shaving and they bleed.
“Then maybe they urinate or defecate, but they have their shower shoes on. They then leave the shower, walking in their shower shoes and they go to their cell.
“That means all that stuff is on the floor, just traveling with them. So you always want to keep your shoes on, even when you’re changing. You don’t want your feet to ever, ever, ever hit the floor.”

The insight captivated viewers, with one TikTok user writing: “Why am I taking notes like I’m planning on going to prison?”
“And THIS is the single reason I avoid prison,” added another, while a third wrote: “I don’t ever plan to go to prison, but I’m thinking few ppl do, so I might need this information.”
Other viewers joked that the scenario sounded similar to life in college, while other viewers chimed in to say they generally tried to avoid going barefoot whenever they could, even if hanging out in a hotel room.
“I’ve been deployed on a ship and trust me it’s the same thing you can NEVER let them puppies touch the floor,” one TikTok user wrote.
Hopefully you’ll never need this information, but it can’t hurt to keep it in mind!
