A man wasted no time in rushing to save someone in need after seeing that they had seemingly collapsed onto some train tracks.
Three years ago, Anthony Perry turned up to his usual Chicago train station when he spotted a man who was almost unconscious on the electrified tracks.
While many would have questioned what to do in such circumstances, Anthony — who was 20 years old at the time — rushed to the man’s aid and pulled him off the tracks and out of harms way.
It’s believed the unnamed individual had ended up on the train line following a brawl with another commuter, however, the other person ran away afterwards.
Anthony said he ‘felt a little shock’ as he jumped onto the tracks, but it didn’t deter him from helping the man in need.
Once Anthony had moved the man off the tracks, he then administered CPR with the help of someone else at the station.
Tavi Ghee witnessed the ordeal and caught it on camera, and speaking to 6 ABC Action News at the time of the ordeal in June 2022, she described it as ‘surreal’.
“That was an out-of-body experience,” Tavi added to the news outlet. Anthony also spoke to them and recalled the moment he saved the man’s life.
“I was hoping I could just grab him and not feel nothing, but I felt a little shock,” he said of the electrified train tracks. “I felt it all through my body actually. I didn’t let that stop me.”
The man Anthony saved was taken to hospital for medical attention and was expected to make a full recovery.
Apparently Anthony used to have a 90-minute commute to his job, but after his heroic actions, he was gifted a car.
He was given the vehicle by Chicago philanthropist and businessman Early Walker. Upon gifting it to the young man, he said: “We need more Anthonys in the world.”
Also speaking about Anthony, Chicago Police Lt. Yolanda Irving said: “So many times people think these young men are out here doing the wrong thing, but this is just a prime example of how a young man took it upon himself to jump in and do the right thing.”
Anthony himself went on to add: “Good always wins.”
While Anthony was hailed a hero, the Chicago Transportation Authority urged people to call 911 if they see someone on the tracks.
“They should never try to enter the right of way, or try to remove the person themselves, as they risk electrocution,” the authority continued to warn.
