Couples who have a few years of marriage under their belt will often try all sorts to keep things interesting in the bedroom.
But Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness didn’t have to put much effort into spicing things up throughout their 27 years together as husband and wife.
The Australian actress, 69, revealed that she felt that sleeping with her former spouse was like ‘always having affairs’ due to his line of work.
Nearly three decades after they tied the knot in April 1996, the pair announced they were going their separate ways.
A statement announcing the film stars’ split in September 2023 explained: “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage.
“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.
“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.
“We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
Jackman and Furness – who who first met in 1995 on the Aussie TV series Corelli – share two children, Oscar, 24, and 19-year-old Ava.
The Wolverine actor took on a host of incredible roles throughout the course of their relationship, including that of the animalistic superhero – even though his former wife initially advised him against it as she thought it was ‘ridiculous’.
He also starred in the likes of Van Helsing, The Prestige, The Fountain, Real Steel and Les Misérables, forcing him to chop and change his appearance for each character over the years.
And during an interview in 2013 with Town & Country Magazine, Furness revealed that this was one of the perks of being married to an A-list actor.
At the time, Jackman had been forced to regrow his beard for another Wolverine film and his then-wife was asked to share her thoughts on her his look.
The Shame star admitted that she was a fan of her fella’s facial hair, before adding: “But I like him clean-shaven.
“I like him all ways: chubby, muscly, skinny,” she continued, before joking: “I’m always having affairs!”
Furness then quipped: “Don’t make that [the] headline!”
Film fans spotted that a joke about her and Jackman’s divorce had been included in last year’s massive Marvel release, Deadpool and Wolverine.
Jackman joined back up with Ryan Reynolds for the movie, which also featured a series of of ‘wild’ cameos from celebs.
Amidst all the action, people picked up on a one-liner in the film which seemingly poked fun at the actor’s split from Furness.
In one scene, Deadpool makes a reference to Wolverine’s yellow costume as he jokingly says: “This is Logan. He’s usually shirtless but he’s let himself go since the divorce.”
Jackman has clearly still got it though, as it is rumoured that he and Broadway star Sutton Foster are now an item after they were pictured holding hands in California last week.
