Darts superstar Luke Littler has revealed why he burst into tears following his World Darts Championship win on Saturday night (21 December).
The Brit made a name for himself in 2023 after finishing as runner-up at the
Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Darts Championship, going viral aged just 16.
A year on, Littler has got several titles under his belt and is one of the biggest names in the sport.
Having won 10 senior PDC titles in his career, as well as being the reigning Premier League Darts, Grand Slam and World Series Finals champion, the teenager has always got eyes on him when he takes the floor.
However, following his win on Saturday night, the world number four had an emotional moment with his parents after defeating Ryan Meikle at the World Dart Championship.
Littler kicked off Ally Pally with a win, which was expected from the prodigy, but he was in tears after the result, which left a lot of fans and viewers confused.
As the favourite to win the tournament, Littler did not start well, but went on to finish the match 3-1.
That included an impressive average of 140.91 in the fourth set, a World Championship record.
Breaking down in tears after emerging victorious, Littler was unable to carry out the live chat with Sky Sports, later providing an explanation.
He revealed: “It’s the worst game I’ve played.
“I’ve never felt anything like that tonight.”
Littler went on: “It was a weird feeling. It’s the biggest stage out there, the last tournament of the calendar year, and I had to somehow get over the line and I’m happy I did.
“I shouldn’t have won that first set but I did and then you have to switch on from there.”
The 17-year-old added: “That last set, I don’t know where I pulled it from. I drank my water, said to Abi (Davies, his interviewer on stage) I was OK, then as soon as the question came, boom, tears.”
He said that trying to speak on stage afterward was ‘a bit too much’, explaining: “Leading up to it, I was fine, the train journey down, practice was going well, even practising on the stage was unbelievable.
“It was as soon as I heard ‘game on’, my bottom went again. I’m thinking, ‘What are you doing? Just relax.’ That last set, I found it,” he concluded.
In the next round, Littler were play against either Ian White or European Championship winner Ritchie Edhouse.
