Mark Wahlberg explains why he no longer follows incredibly intense daily schedule that went viral

mark wahlberg given up on viral gym routine

Mark Wahlberg at age 53 is in pretty impressive shape, but the actor has broken down why he doesn’t stick to the same wild fitness regime that previously sent him viral.

Wahlberg has been in Hollywood and the public eye for most of his life, and it’s clear the actor takes his health and fitness very seriously.

Speaking to UNILAD for his upcoming film Flight Risk, Wahlberg explained that despite the intense filming schedule over only 22 days, he still managed to keep on top of his fitness goals.

The film, directed by Mel Gibson and featuring Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace, focuses on Wahlberg’s character flying a fugitive across the Alaskan wilderness for the US government, but tension arises when the identities and intentions of those aboard the small plane come into question.

The movie isn’t Wahlberg’s most physically demanding role, but that didn’t stop him from keeping a rather intense workout schedule.

However, he did note that it isn’t the same workout he went viral for back in 2018.

For those don’t remember, the actor would wake up at 2.30am, eat breakfast at 3.15am and do his first workout of the day between 3.40am and 5.15am before having a second workout later on in the day…Yeah, that is a BIG pass from me.

And just to outline just how intense it was, here is what he used to do.

· 2.30am — Wake up

· 2.45am — Prayer time

· 3.15am — Breakfast

· 3.40-5.15am — Workout

· 5.30am — Post-workout meal

· 6am — Shower

· 7.30am — Golf

· 8am — Snack

· 9.30am — Cryo chamber recovery

· 10.30am — Snack

· 11am — Family time, meetings, and work calls

· 1pm — Lunch

· 2pm — Meetings and work calls

· 3pm — Pick up kids from school

· 3.30pm — Snack

· 4pm — Second workout

· 5pm — Shower

· 5.30pm — Dinner and family time

· 7.30pm — Bedtime

Just about anyone would be happy to have this schedule behind them now…

Describing a day in the life on the Flight Risk set, he said: “I was actually training during the movie. You know, I get up early in the morning, get it done and then I’d go to the set.

“I would just kind of eat if I got a little break or take a little nap and as soon as we were done, you know, 10, 12, 14-hour day, [then I’d] go home and go right to bed.

“We shot in my hometown, in Vegas, [so I’d] wake up in the morning, go in the gym and go to work.”

Mark Wahlberg explained he was still able to keep on top of his fitness schedule while filming Flight Risk (UNILAD)

When asked how he was able to still fit in two workouts even while filming, Wahlberg explained that he’s actually switched up his routine from the workout that sent him viral. The simple reason for that, is that he wasn’t seeing the results that he wanted.

He explained: “[Now it’s] one workout a day, five days a week. Those two-a-days are over, yeah that’s just too much.

“I really was working myself into the ground, I was wondering why I wasn’t getting any results.”

But don’t think the actor is comfortable slacking off when it comes to filming roles. He said that he sends a portable gym to where he is staying ahead of time so that he can get some lifts in while traveling. Another big no-no for us normal civilians who like a cheeky excuse to not work out.

Wahlberg also explained in more detail what his routine looks like when he has to move it around work.

People on social media had their minds blown when they realized how hard Wahlberg worked to keep in shape (@markwahlberg/Instagram)

He said: “I’ve kind of planned it all out, where we are going, where we are staying, if I’m going for a long period of time, you know.

“I have a little portable gym that I’ll bring, I’ll send it in advance and I try to because it is a big part of what I do.

“So you know, I gotta go do it. I start my day out everyday you know with my prayer routine, and then I want to go jump in the cold water, wakes me right up.

“I feel alive and then I want to go workout, even if it’s for only for 45 minutes or an hour. Do all my reading, all my preparation for the day.

“Because by the time I actually get to being on location, I’ve been working on the script for months so I hopefully know it. I’m just kind of refreshing my notes and all that stuff and reading the script out loud, and then I’m off to work.”

Hopefully that’s enough inspiration to not slack off from your workout this week. If Wahlberg can do it, so can you!

Flight Risk will be in theatres from January 24 2025.
