In some exciting Christmas Day news, Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, which features Adam Sandler and Travis Kelce.
Check it out below:
Earlier this year, it was confirmed the first draft of the comedy had been written, much to the excitement of fans.
“I saw Adam about two weeks ago,” Christopher McDonald recalled in an interview on the Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima.
“He says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this’,” he continued. “[And] he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.”
The original 1996 movie followed a goofy hockey player with serious anger issues as he took up professional golf to save his beloved grandmother’s house, with McDonald playing a key role.
Along with Billy Madison, which was released a year prior, Happy Gilmore was a movie that Sandler both starred in and wrote, and the two movies later went on to become the namesake for Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison Productions.
It’s been 30 years since Adam Sandler last played the failed ice hockey player turned golfer, but he will be making a return very soon.
“Have a HAPPY New Year with HAPPY GILMORE 2. Coming to Netflix in 2025,” Netflix penned on Twitter alongside a teaser trailer for the hugely anticipated sequel.
The teaser also confirmed NFL star Kelce would be appearing in the movie, as he steps away from the field of play into a role in front of the cameras.
Many on social media have flocked to the comments section of the announcement post, and it’s fair to say the majority of fans have welcomed the news as they tuck into their Christmas dinner this afternoon.
“BEST NEWS TO START THE WEEK WITH,” one person posted.
A second added: “Can’t wait to see Happy Gilmore trade in his golf clubs for some new challenges… like synchronized swimming or competitive knitting!”
While a third remarked: “That sounds exciting! A Happy Gilmore sequel could be a fun way to kick off the new year. Are you looking forward to seeing what new adventures Happy will have in the second film?”
Happy Gilmore 2 will release exclusively on Netflix at some point in 2025, but no concrete release date has been given as of yet.
We may still be in 2024, but next year’s movie lineup is already looking tasty.
