A new rom-com has landed on Netflix starring Liam Hemsworth and it’s been branded ‘xx’ by viewers.
If you’ve already binge-watched your way through one of the most talked about rom-com series of the year and needed another lovey-dovey movie to scratch that soppy itch then fear not, because the streaming service has once again pulled through.
It may have a title which makes it seem like a David Attenborough wildlife documentary, but it’s definitely anything but bar the enviably hot and beautiful destination.
What’s Lonely Planet about?
Written and directed by Susannah Grant (co-wrote the screenplay of 2006 movie Charlotte’s Web) the film was produced by Grant alongside Sara Timberman (Elementary) and Liza Chasin (co-produced 2022’s The Lost City).
The story centers around a writer called Katherine Loewe (Laura Dern) who travels to Morocco in a bid to finish her latest novel however, the trip ends up being a lot more transformative than she expected after meeting a younger man called Owen (Liam Hemsworth).
The Netflix movie – Lonely Planet – was first released onto the platform on October 11 and has already amassed a jaw-dropping amount of views.

Netflix’s ‘Global Top 10’
During the week beginning October 7 until October 13, the movie amassed a total of 11 million views and 17,600,000 hours viewed resulting in it making the fourth spot in Netflix’s ‘Global Top 10,’ as per Netflix’s Tudum.
By the second week after its release, it leapt up to the top spot with a total of 13,700,000 views and 21,900,000 hours viewed.
Although, despite accumulating an impressive amount of views, Lonely Planet’s Rotten Tomatoes score is a bit conflicting.

It’s achieved a pretty measly Tomatometer score of 39 percent and similarly pitiful Popcornmeter of 39 percent.
However, that’s not stopped an outpouring of support for the movie on social media.
One Twitter user said: “Give Laura the Oscar now.”
“Turn on your reminders 11 October for this masterpiece. ‘Lonely Planet’,” another added, while a third commented: “First look? I had a first look of their kiss like a year ago and I NEED THIS LIKE I NEED AIR.”
And addressing some people criticizing the film for its presentation of cheating, a YouTube user resolved: “Love this movie just finished watching it. i don’t know maybe it’s just because i’m older now or i’ve seen much more in life than a couple years before, but this one hits different.
“I know many people not liking the “cheating” part but for me this movie is beautiful. Sometimes, it takes one person (or one true love) to know that you are/were.”
