Nikki Glaser didn’t disappoint when she hosted the Golden Globes this year, but not all of her jokes made the cut.
Hosts are famous for roasting Hollywood celebs sat in the audience of the glittering Golden Globes ceremony in Beverly Hills and this year, Glaser was the first woman to ever take on the task solo on Sunday (January 5).
The 40-year-old lived up to the legendary challenge too, with viewers crowning her roast of Selena Gomez and fiancé, Benny Blanco, ‘the best part of the show‘.
However, the comedian revealed to Howard Stern on Monday’s (January 6) episode of his SiriusXM show that some gags were axed.
Glaser explained to the broadcaster that she almost joked about Ben Affleck‘s infamous divorces from two Jennifers – Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner – but the show’s writers weren’t keen on the quip.
She revealed she almost said: “Am I gonna roast or am I not gonna roast? You know what? I’m not roasting. I’m gonna toast.”
“And I just did all these toasts that were roasts,” Glaser continued. “Like, ‘Here’s to Ben Affleck, I can’t wait to see which Jennifer you try to ruin next.'”
In August 2024, it emerged that Lopez had filed for divorce from Affleck with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.
Affleck and Lopez were one of Hollywood’s biggest couples in the noughties, having met in 2002 on the film set of 2003’s Gigli, in which they both starred.
They were quickly dubbed ‘Bennifer’ and got engaged the same year, however, the wedding was called off in 2004 – and they eventually called it quits on their relationship.
Fast forward to 2021 and the duo had rekindled their relationship, finally tying the knot – twice – at a ceremony in Las Vegas and at Savannah, Georgia, in July and August 2022.
The Air director also wed Jennifer Garner in 2005 before they separated a decade later, though they only filed for divorce in 2017.
But it was the specific wording of Glaser’s Jennifer joke that proved an issue.
She explained: “I argued like, ‘Oh, I didn’t say ruin them. I said he tried to ruin them so it’s not against them.’ But I was like, ‘That would have been insane.'”
Despite writers cutting out the joke, Glaser still managed to get a crack in at Affleck.
During the show opener, she said: “Tonight, we celebrate the best of film and hold space for television. Yes, ‘Wicked’, ‘Queer’, ‘Nightbitch’, these are not just words Ben Affleck yells after he orgasms. These are some of the incredible movies nominated tonight.”
