Nikki Glaser reveals she cut ‘insane’ Ben Affleck divorce joke from her Golden Globes monologue

Nikki Glaser has revealed the ‘insane’ joke she planned to make about Ben Affleck’s divorce, but decided not to go through with it.

The 2025 Golden Globes was a hit, with every stunning celebrity out in attendance, but they all probably knew that they’d be getting roasted by the queen of roasts herself.

As always, comedians are hired to get the crowd going, often at the expense of the guests.

For example, Ricky Gervais hosted several times, and during his last time, he admitted that he didn’t ‘care’ anymore about whether the jokes were too much, and went full hammer on everyone in the room.

He also had some thoughts about how he would have handled the event, had he been hosting it this year.

Thankfully, while a lot of people looked shocked, many found the jokes funny.

However, some comedians have a limit to what they will and won’t make fun of, and for Glaser, it appears that Affleck’s failed second attempt at love with Jennifer Lopez was one of those things.

The 40-year-old opened up while talking to Howard Stern yesterday (6 January) and revealed the jokes she cut from her opening monologue.

While talking on the SiriusXM show, she shared that she almost said: “Am I gonna roast or am I gonna toast? You know what? I’m not roasting. I’m gonna toast.”

That would have then led to her ‘toasting’ Affleck for his relationship history.

The comedian continued: “And I just did all these toasts that were roasts.

“Like, ‘Here’s to Ben Affleck, I can’t wait to see which Jennifer you try to ruin next.’”

…Not too sure how that would have worked out for her in the crowd, but it’s definitely more of a roast than a toast.

While she cut it, she did go on to roast him a little and said in her monologue: “So, tonight, we celebrate the best of film and hold space for television.

“Yes, ‘Wicked,’ ‘Queer,’ ‘Nightbitch’: These are not just words Ben Affleck yells after he orgasms. These are some of the incredible movies nominated tonight.”

The joke follows the news that Lopez filed for a divorce from Affleck two years into their marriage.

The pair originally got together and were even engaged in 2002 before ending things two years later.

Then, in 2005, Affleck married Jennifer Garner after starring together in Daredevil.

Unfortunately, they too would call it quits after 10 years, with their divorce officially coming through in 2017.

The reason Glaser had to cut the joke was down to how she had worded it, which, apparently, the writers weren’t keen on.

She explained to Stern: “I argued like, ‘Oh, I didn’t say ruin them. I said he tried to ruin them so it’s not against them.’ But I was like, ‘That would have been insane.’”

Another joke she cut included one about Selena Gomez’s TV show where she would have said: “Only Murders in the Building is amazing. I think it’s so cool that legends like Steve Martin, Martin Short and Meryl Streep are still at it. It just goes to show you that you’re never too old to still need money. Why are you still working so hard? What’s going on, did you get caught up in the Hawk Tuah crypto scheme?”

She also nearly said, “Glen Powell is nominated tonight for Hit Man. Who would have thought you’d only be the second-hottest hit man in America?” in reference to Luigi Mangione.
