A Tesla owner who said it ‘sucked’ to receive an electricity bill for the first time in 12 months left people shocked after revealing their charge.
Getting a bill is never fun, but the exact size of that bill plays a big part in just how annoying it is. Unexpectedly low figures are a pleasant surprise, while the big ones can cast a dark cloud over your day.
For Tesla owner and Twitter user @Tesla_GTownTX, getting their first bill in 12 months was enough to make them take to the social media platform to complain, writing: “First time i’ve had a bill within the last 12 months. this sucks.”
However, a screenshot of the bill, which arrived in January 2024, quickly indicated that the Tesla owner was joking, and that things could have been much, much worse.
According to the image, the bill for the 12 months was just $2.37. You could barely even afford a trip to Starbucks with that!
In a more recent update shared on January 18, the Tesla owner revealed how little Tesla continued to cost them as they shared screenshots of their charges and the breakdown of their most recent monthly statement.
In doing so, they offered insight on exactly how their bill was so low.

The statement indicated that the user benefited from a Tesla Virtual Power Plant; a network of energy sources, like homes, which are equipped with solar and battery systems.
The Tesla customer revealed that they actually had excess credits for their Tesla Electric setup which could be paid out to them.
These credits amounted to $444.37, and were the latest in a series of credits the owner had received over the last few months.
A breakdown of the statement detailed each product, revealing costs of $13.92 and $15 for Tesla Electric Charges and a Tesla Electric Home Charging Plan, respectively.
However, the owner also had negative costs in the form of Electric Sellback Credits and a Tesla Virtual Power Plant.
Once all was said and done, the total amount due on their most recent monthly statement was $0.00.
Other Twitter users were left stunned by @Tesla_GTownTX’s posts, so much so that some actually struggled to believe it was real.
“Am I reading this right…[?],” one person questioned.
After @Tesla_GTownTX shared about his bill last year, other users responded to point out that there was a larger cost involved with installing the money-saving devices such as solar panels.
“How much did you originally pay for solar arrays and power wall?,” one person questioned.
According to Solar Reviews, Powerwalls can cost approximately $9,300, or almost $17,000 once accessories and installation is taken into account.
