Private investigator reveals secret gadget he uses to catch cheating partners in the act

Prepare to never look at these everyday objects in the same way again as a private investigator has revealed what he uses to help catch cheaters.

If you’ve been binge-watching Harlan Coben’s latest Netflix thriller Missing You, you may’ve thought catching a cheater in the act involves a lot of waiting around in a car, hiding yourself from view and whipping out a camera with a very long lens when the moment arises to get proof.

However, a private detective from Connecticut has since revealed the tech-savvy gadget he uses to expose infidelity.

During an appearance on the Locked In with Ian Bick podcast, Ray Ranno revealed he often employs the use of one particular gadget to uncover an affair – with spying on unfaithful spouses making up ‘about 40 percent’ of his work.

Granted, it does still take the form of some sort of camera, but can you guess the clever form the camera is disguised as?

Well, a fake coffee cup of course – the perfect cover in any situation really, with it not seeming out of place to see someone carrying up a cup of coffee in the car, on the street, in a supermarket or any shop.

And the private investigator opened up further about just how the sneaky coffee cup camera works.

He often trails prospective cheaters around places such as a supermarket, gas station or car wash – noting sometimes men will pick up their mistress or whoever they’re cheating with at a car wash before taking them to a bar or someplace else.

But how does Ranno stay undetected but still catch the suspect on camera without being spotted? You can’t exactly just whip out your phone and snap a picture, can you?

Well, he explained: “If I go into a coffee place, or a supermarket wherever I need to be, I just take the lid off turn it on put the cap on and it looks like I’m walking around with a coffee.

“In the meantime, I’m videotaping everything.”

And the cool gadgets don’t stop there either.

Ranno revealed he also uses a ‘key fob’ which has a hidden camera in it too.

“I have a key fob, that has a pinhole lens, it’s got a little SD card in it. I turn it on, put my keys on it and I just go right, put it on the bar, sit there and have a beer and let the camera do the work,” he said.

Well, maybe we should all think about giving up our day jobs and start looking into working as private investigators then if it’s that easy, eh?
