A shocking simulation showing a baby growing inside a woman’s womb has left much of the internet stunned.

We all did sex education at school, learning the inner workings of how a baby is made.

Well, it appears much of the internet was not listening in science, as many people are stunned by a video showing how a baby develop in a woman’s womb.

The simulation, which was posted to Instagram by ‘Mommy’s Touch’, tells the story of the baby from week three all the way up until week 40.

While the video does a pretty good job of explaining how a baby grows inside the body, many have been left stunned by its illustrative purpose.

The video has gone viral thanks to a Twitter post by ‘non aesthetic things’, with many flocking to the comments section.

“No wonder why babies cry when they are born, Why wouldn’t they be as they are being pushed out of a warm cozy and peaceful world,” one person penned.

A second added: “Poor intestines”, while another joked: “Bro, where is the Stork?”

Some were simply baffled, asking: “how do they flip themselves?”, and one commenter simply stating: “This is insane.”

So, what is the science behind it all?

Well, pregnancy is split into three trimesters, as I’m sure many of you will be aware.

The first spans a period of 12 weeks, which sees the fertilized egg change from a small grouping of cells to a fetus that starts to resemble human features.

Most people realize they are pregnant during the second month, with hormones typically going into overdrive.

It is the eighth week when medical experts refer to the embryo as a fetus, which it will remain until birth.

The third month of pregnancy, as seen in the video, sees a rapid increase in growth and development.

Come week 12, the fetus has a biological gender assigned, though that isn’t visible on an ultrasound until several weeks later, as those waiting for the hugely exciting 20-week scan will know all about.

And things just progress from there, really, with most expecting mothers feeling movement from the fetus at around the end of the fifth month of pregnancy.

Also, to ease one aforementioned commenter’s mind, Spinning Babies explains that ‘between 24-29 weeks, most babies turn vertical and some will be breech. By 30-32 weeks, most babies flip head down and bottom-up’.

Once the pregnancy has hit 33 weeks, the lungs are close to being fully developed.

Cleveland Clinic describes the ninth month as ‘putting the finishing touch on growth and brain development’ ahead of baby coming into the world.
