Stephen King fans are so obsessed with a TV adaptation hailed ‘the perfect mini-series’, they’re watching it ‘six times’ over.
The undisputed ‘King of Horror‘ is among the most-adapted authors of our time – and for good reason.
The 77-year-old is behind hits including The Shining (both the movie and mini-series, although King prefers the latter), ‘hidden gem’ drama Mr Mercedes and new movie The Monkey – to name just a few.
But there’s one stand-out series released almost a decade ago that still has viewers pressing rewatch time and time again.
In fact, the eight-parter has fans feeling so strongly, one wished they could ‘forget’ ever watching it just to experience it for the first time again.
Others claim they’ve cried so hard they got a headache after finishing the series, but don’t let that put you off.
The mini-series in question is called 11.22.63 and stars James Franco as Jake Epping, a freshly divorced English teacher from Maine.
He’s offered the chance to travel back in time by long-time friend Al Templeton (Chris Cooper), with one catch: he must stop the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963.
Tasked with secretly gathering intel in the lead-up to the assassination, Jake must also create and maintain a secret life to avoid arousing suspicion.
But he soon becomes attached to the life he’s built himself in the past, jeopardizing the entire mission.
Among the first ever Hulu original series to be produced, 11.22.63 premiered on the platform on February 2016 but was removed towards the end of 2024.
Fortunately, it was picked up by streaming service Tubi in November, meaning Americans can now stream it free of charge, while UK fans can stream it with an Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts, with one X user declaring: “Just finished my 6th rewatch of 11.22.63 and I’m still convinced it’s the perfect mini series”.
A second pondered: “If I could only forget I ever watched this, just so I can watch it again for the first time…”
A third added: “Just finished my rewatch of Stephen King’s 11.22.63 and I cried so hard I gave myself a headache,” adding: “Go watch it if you haven’t yet.”
The discussion continued over on a Reddit thread from the end of 2024, where one person wrote: “I could watch 20 seasons if they kept going on separate plots,” as a second admitted: “The ending was truly beautiful, made my grown ass cry.”
11.22.63 is available to stream now for free on Tubi in the US or with an Amazon Prime Video subscription in the UK.
