Travis Scott has raised some eyebrows after appearing to smoke a joint live on Netflix’s WWE debut.
Yesterday (January 6), marked the the streamer’s first ever WWE Raw, which was attended by some of the biggest names in wrestling.
The Rock, John Cena, and the undisputed WWE champion ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes were spotted at the highly anticipated event, as well as Bianca Belair and Logan Paul.
Netflix‘s Raw marks the first time it’s been available to live stream in the show’s 31-year history. But it wasn’t the wrestling itself that got people talking on social media – it was Travis Scott‘s cameo.
The ‘goosebumps’ rapper joined Jey ‘Yeet’ Uso for his ringwalk on Monday, and appeared to be smoking a joint.
It’s highly unlikely that smoking in the Intuit Dome is permitted – and I’m sure the same can be said for smoking weed on live TV.
WWE fans were quick to take to Twitter to air their grievances.
Someone fumed: “Nice family show with crapper Travis Scott smoking pot while escorting Jey Uso to the ring. Disgusting. That’ll make a great Make-A-Wish.”
A different person echoed: “This was bad. Travis Scott should be banned from WWE. Smoking shouldn’t be shown on TV. There are children watching.”
A third WWE fan added: “Rock drinking and driving and Travis Scott smoking a fat joint while blowing smoke over children is an interesting choice for @WWE.”
Hailing Scott’s smoking as ‘offensive’, another viewer wrote: “Why does WWE think its appropriate to show Travis Scott coming out and smoking a joint live while kids are around and also watching me and my children found this offensive and you should be ashamed.”
Not all Netflix viewers had an issue with Scott’s smoking though, and hailed his entrance with Uso as ‘the greatest wrestling entrance ever’.
The matter was addressed by Uso at a post-show press conference.
He said of Scott’s blunt: “I smelled it. He didn’t let me inhale it. I couldn’t. I had to go work. Yeet. Yeet. There were little kids over there, too. Ah sh*t.”
Elsewhere, Triple H said he was thankful that the wrestler said no to smoking the joint.
“I’d like to personally thank Jay Uso for just saying no,” the retired wrestler and chief content officer of WWE said. “On the entrance, that could have gone very differently. I’m thankful that it didn’t.”
He added that fans should ‘expect to see more things from Travis Scott’ when it comes to Netflix’s new WWE venture.
