While others have committed to a new gym membership and some give up alcohol, you might have decided to cut back on vapes this year.

And with the sale of single-use ones set to be banned in June, you may be gearing up to say bye to them for the long run.

Health experts have listed various red flags and warnings to vapers and one of those is of course, ‘vaper’s tongue’.

Dentists have spoken about the grim consequence that may put you off the colourful bars for good. So, as a doctor issued a warning about the long-term side effect of it, ‘vape experts’ have revealed how to get rid of vaper’s tongue.

What is vaper’s tongue?

Generally, vaping is seen as the less harmful alternative to puffing on cigarettes. However, it still comes with its own side effects, and ‘vaper’s tongue’ isn’t a pretty one.

This can be described as a temporary loss or reduction in your ability to taste different flavours when vaping.

Vaper’s tongue isn’t ‘inherently dangerous’ and is reversible, but it is pretty annoying.

What long-term side effects does vaper’s tongue have?

Now, like I said, vaper’s tongue is generally viewed as being reversible and temporary, but Dr. Pamela Maragliano-Muniz, the chief editor of Dental Economics, and Tom Viola, RPh, CCP, a board-certified pharmacist, say there can be greater consequences.

Speaking on YouTube, Viola claimed it’s about ‘scalding the tissue’ on our tongues with the heat of a vape.

The medical professional added: “The temperature still is pretty high when it gets to the back of your tongue where a lot of your taste buds are located, and so the association there is ‘I don’t taste anything anymore.'”

Can you get rid of vaper’s tongue?

Now, experts in the sense that they flog electronic cigarettes and vapes, v2 cigs shared a post on how to rid yourself of vaper’s tongue. And it’s worth noting that this is coming from their sales site, rather than a direct health professional.

So, it advises to ‘change your vape juice often’ and to ‘clean out your tank’ of a vape pen to bring back the flavours.

It then says to ‘drink more water’ and to ‘give up cigarettes as soon as possible’. It claims this will not just improve your health but will ensure the taste from your vape pod ‘is not compromised’.

Another tip it advises is to ‘take your time between vaping’ and to not overdo it, helping to return the taste. And finally, it says to ‘reset your olfactory senses’ by ‘smelling fresh coffee beans or sucking lemons’ to help get taste back. This is something health experts also agree with in particular, alongside staying hydrated.

But of course, aside from these tips, quitting vaping and cigarettes will have the best impact on your health.
