Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have both had illustrious and storied careers in acting.

Despite this, many will know the duo for their time as Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann in Disney’s Pirates of The Caribbean franchise.

Recently, however, during the marketing tour for her new Netflix show, Black Doves, Knightley was critical of her time on the films.

How many of the Pirates films have the pair been in?

Knightley appeared in the first three films as a main character, then returned with a cameo in the fourth film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, meanwhile, Bloom played a major role in the fourth film.

A fifth film in the series was made without Knightley or Bloom and while future films in the Pirates franchise appear to change every other day.

The reported plan for at least one of the future films appears to be for Ayo Edibiri to star in replacement of Johnny Depp, who played Captain Jack Sparrow in the film series.

What did Knightley say about the films and how did Bloom respond?

Knightley said she was ‘taken down publicly’ for the films, adding: “It’s a funny thing when you have something that was making and breaking you at the same time.

“I was seen as s**t because of them, and yet because they did so well I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for [Pride & Prejudice and The Imitation Game].” she told The Times.

“They were the most successful films I’ll ever be a part of and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly.

“So, they’re in a very confused place in my head.”

Bloom recently responded to this, telling Entertainment Weekly that it ‘almost feels another lifetime now.’

He added: “I definitely understand where Keira was coming from, and she does wonderful things.

“I have a lot of positive takeaways.”

What has Bloom said about returning to the films?

Unsurprisingly from this, Bloom appears to be fairly open to the idea of returning to the high seas as Will Turner.

He said in an interview with Parade: “Gosh, you know, I did get to go back and play Legolas in The Hobbit, which was 10 years later. I was like, ‘This is a lot of fun!’

“Because he’s such a great space to be in, and I think Will [Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean]—I mean Will’s so great.

“I wouldn’t mind seeing what Will looked like today in some ways, because he was such this earnest guy, but after rumbling around the bottom of the ocean for as long as he would have done at this point, it’d be interesting to see how he surfaces and what he’s like.”

He also told a crowd when speaking at ACE Superhero Comic Con: “Look, those experiences and those movies were phenomenal. Working with that team was so great.

“Jerry [Bruckheimer] produced these amazing movies. Never say never. I don’t know what the premise is, I haven’t heard yet. But I think that world was phenomenal.

“We built a world there that was very unique. I definitely had a lot of fun doing that.

“If there was something really fun and cool to do, I would do that. I think they’ve got all sorts of ideas that we could see. There’s plenty of ocean out there.”
