A woman has been arrested after she accidentally texted her Sheriff’s office for drugs on New Year’s Eve.
A 41-year-old woman from Bay County, Florida, was reportedly caught red handed attempting to buy drugs while driving on a suspended licence in a vehicle littered with drugs paraphernalia – all because she placed her order for fentanyl to a cop instead of her drug dealer.
According to a Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Wells had accidentally sent text messages to a narcotics investigator who ‘immediately began communicating’ with her while ‘undercover’.
The investigator set up the ‘sale’ and when she went to meet who she thought was her drug dealer at a local gas station in Panama City, she was greeted with several officers of the BCSO Special Investigations Division who arrested her instead.
According to the affidavit of her arrest, the investigator received ‘unsolicited’ messages where Wells used certain language the cop recognized from ‘training and experience to be common in attempting to purchase narcotics.’
Her message allegedly read that she needed ‘just a couple points’ – referring to 1/10th of a gram of fentanyl which she intended to buy for $45.
During her arrest, officers noted she had been driving with a suspended license and confronted her about her reason for being at the gas station.
Her car was also searched where a ‘foil’, which is used to take the drug as well as a bag with fentanyl ‘residue’, was found in the driver’s door pocket the affidavit states. Also, a separate piece of burnt foil in a trash bag on the passenger seat, digital scales, fentanyl test strips on the center console with cut straws to smoke fentanyl and another cut straw under the driver’s seat.
While Wells was put in the back of a patrol car, another officer spotted another cut straw and piece of tin foil ‘sticking out of her pocket’.
All the materials were tested which had positive results of the narcotic.
Speaking to officers, Wells reportedly claimed she was trying to purchase a small amount of fentanyl before checking into rehab that day.
The woman also reportedly stated she made the error in texting the cop after saving his number under his initials from a previous interaction, which was similar to her drug dealer.
She was then charged with unlawful use of a two-way communication device, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.
According to Law&Crime, Wells posted bond and was ordered not to possess or consume alcoholic drinks.
She has also been ordered to submit random urinalysis tests.
Wells is due to appear before court on January 30.
