Ah, what to wear for work. It always feels like more of a stress than it needs to when you start a new job. I mean, what on earth does ‘smart casual’ even mean in an office environment?
But eventually, you do start to get the hang of it – even if it means spending 20 minutes the night before staring at a full wardrobe saying ‘I have nothing to wear’.
And of course, there’s still a line. Although, we don’t always see eye to eye on it with a woman sparking a huge TikTok debate after being called in to HR for her ‘inappropriate’ work outfit.
A viral video shared online saw a woman claim she’d had an email about her office fashion choices that were ‘distracting’.

Chatting to someone called Matt, she explains her black dress was ‘an example’ as he said: “I think it’s appropriate work attire.”
But she went ahead with her meeting with the HR employee, wearing a blazer-style dress so she ‘can’t be mad’.
In a recording of the apparent chat, a voice says: “I must admit, I’m slightly disappointed seeing how you dress today.”
While she points out Matt said ‘there was no issue’, the HR employee doesn’t believe the bloke is in ‘a position to say what he did’.
“We do need to address this issue because we are having comments from other members of staff,” they add.
But as arguments consistently swirl about whose responsibility it is if they can’t handle a woman wearing a dress, the accused points out: “I don’t think that’s my fault if I’m distracting other members of staff, that’s not on me, that’s kind of on them.”

However, the HR woman goes on to slam that people are saying the woman is ‘begging for attention’ and asks if she’s ‘going to do anything differently’ which leads the user to say she’ll go ‘shopping this weekend’.
Shared onto a viral video page, the comments were divided as some said that HR ‘is def correct’.

Others said it’s ‘WAY too short’ and while it was ‘super cute’ it’s ‘not for work’.
“If you dressed it with tights and a long cardigan it would be fine,” someone suggested.
However, another user admitted they were ‘slightly disappointed by the comments’ as someone else agreed: “Others need to mind their own business.
“Says a lot when someone else’s clothes affect your job performance.”
