Woman who lived in Gavin and Stacey house shares major secret about filming of show

Woman who lived in Gavin and Stacey house

A couple that accidentally moved into one of the most famous houses on British TV had no clue what was in store when they made home in their little terrace on Trinity Street, Barry.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be aware of the emotional rollercoaster everyone was put through on Christmas Day as the long-awaited finale of Gavin and Stacey aired.

We’ll never see Gavin, Smithy, Stacey, Nessa and co. ever again, but what a send off it was, with enough twists and turns to give you whiplash.

The British sitcom has drawn to a close after 17 years, but it won’t stop the tidbits and hidden details about the show that will continue to come up about the characters, filming and more.

Lisa Edwards is responsible for unveiling this secret about one of the houses used in the series.

Edwards moved into the terraced house in Barry, Wales, back in 2006, just a year before the BBC comedy aired on TV.

It turned out that the couple’s home would belong to Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) in the show, as Lisa admitted she was shocked when she saw it on her screen for the first time.

“The first time I realised I was in the house watching it on TV. I thought it looked like my living room at the time, and it was the weirdest feeling,” she explained.

“Our neighbours were away at the time so I couldn’t ask them so I rang the BBC. They said due to data protection they couldn’t tell us – they said they were filming series two and if someone knocked on my door then we would know.”

This knock did come, with the couple meeting Nessa (Ruth Jones) and Uncle Bryn himself, as Edwards revealed: “We got to stay in the house for filming so we saw more than everyone else.”

While admitting they ‘completely re-did’ the living area for season two, she explained: “They catalogued everything and had to put it all back in the right place.

“We had this DFS sofa and when we moved it in it was a really struggle so they said they wouldn’t bother to move it.

“We actually sold it on eBay and put on the listings that it was a famous sofa.”

As cool as it was for the couple to live in a house that was seen by millions on TV, the home became a tourist attraction, with hardcore fans making their way to the house and ruining the lives of Edwards and her family.

Taking to Reddit, the mother explained that people would come ‘late at night’ to ask for a tour, saying they ‘got a bit sick’ of the non-stop attention.

But now they have moved out, she said she looks back with fondness, as she even took her girl guides to the home to witness the last part of filming on Trinity Street.

Explaining how it was during the infamous stag do episode, she revealed: “This was the most they set up the living room, it was also there for the whole weekend and they left pizzas out on markers that couldn’t be moved.

“They smelled lovely to start with but the whole room stank by Monday. They also had a subbuteo set laid out. We did have a nose around in there!”

Edwards even claimed that she has the script of an unaired episode filmed in her home, which promised to solve the mystery around the fishing trip, which remains unsolved.
